はたかぜ（JS Hatakaze, DDG171）は、帝国海軍の神風型駆逐艦 旗風、あさかぜ型護衛艦はたかぜに続く3代目の艦です。艦名は「旗にあたって、はためかせる風」に由来します。
中期業務見積りに基づく昭和56（1981）年度計画4,500トン型護衛艦2311号艦として、三菱重工業長崎造船所で建造され、昭和61（1986）年3月27日に就役し、第1護衛隊群第61護衛隊に編入され横須賀に配備され、平成26（2014）年10月24日、編成替えにより第1護衛隊群第1護衛隊に編入されました。定係港は現在も横須賀です。
作品は、本型の特徴である、艦首に備え付けられたターター発射機から、スタンダードミサイルを発射している瞬間をとらえたものです。

Destroyer Hatakaze (DDG171)
The Hatakaze, （JS Hatakaze, DDG171）is the third ship to bear the name, from the Imperial Navy Kamikaze class destroyer Hatakaze and the Asakaze class destroyer Hatakaze. The ships name is derived from the image of a flag fluttering in the wind. Included in the middle business estimate for defense, laid down at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Nagasaki shipyard as 4,500 ton type escort vessel hull number 2311 as part of the fiscal year Showa 56 (1981), commissioned on Showa 61 (1986) March 27th, she was assigned to the 1st flotilla 61 squadron at Yokosuka, on Heisei 26 (2014) she was reassigned to 1st flotilla 1st squadron. At present she is still based at Yokosuka. In this drawing she is shown from the bow firing a Tartar anti-aircraft missile.
