むらさめ（JS Murasame）は、9隻建造された むらさめ型護衛艦の1番艦です。帝国海軍の春雨型駆逐艦 村雨、白露型駆逐艦 村雨、海上自衛隊の むらさめ型護衛艦（初代）むらさめ、に続き、4代目です。艦名は「ひとしきり降ってはやみ、やんではまた降る雨」に由来します。
海上自衛隊の第2世代汎用護衛艦として、03・08中期防に基づき、平成3（1991）年度から平成9（1997）年度にかけて計9隻が建造され、続いて発展型の たかなみ型（10〜13DD）更には あきづき型（19〜21DD）が建造されました。現在では むらさめ型9隻、たかなみ型5隻、あきづき型4隻と共に護衛隊群の基準構成艦となっています。
作品は、平成27（2015）年の第21次派遣海賊対処行動水上部隊として いかづち と共にソマリア沖・アデン湾で任務に従事しテイルシーンをイメージしたものです。
むらさめ は不審船臨検の為のＲＨＩＢを降ろしたところで、ダビット周辺には作業中の自衛官がいます。背景には共に行動中の いかづち、上空には連携して任務にあたるＰ-3Ｃがフライパスしていきます。

Destroyer Murasame (DD101)
The Murasame (JS Murasame) is the first ship of the 9 ship Murasame class. She is the fourth ship to bear the name, from the Imperial Navy Harusame class Murasame, Shiratsuyu class Murasame, and the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force Murasame. The name is derived from a light drizzle. As the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force’s second generation escort ship, part of the 03.08 plan, from Heisei 3 (1991) to Heisei 9 (1997) 9 ships of the class were completed, followed by the Takanami class (10~13 DD), and next the Akitsuki class (10~21DD). At present, the 9 Murasame class, 5 Takanami class, and the 4 Akitsuki form the main escort group of the fleet.
This work shows her as part of the Heisei 27 (2015) detached anti-piracy patrol along with the Ikazuchi in the waters off Somalia in the Gulf of Aden.
